Throughout US history, women toiled to improve their communities and to obtain the right to vote. Even after the passage of the 19th amendment, Black men and women continued to have their rights denied for decades. Let the stories of these everyday citizens who, despite obstacles, worked for change in their hometown, inspire your own efforts to improve the community in which you live.
