iThrive Sim: Lives in Balance is a 35-minute role-playing simulation game that invites middle and high school students to act as government officials tasked with responding to a public health crisis over a 35-minute class period. In a civic learning experience powered by tech and online play, students explore federalism, state rights, interstate commerce, freedom of assembly, and other civil rights as they wrestle with the tension between reopening the economy and following health guidelines. With each group decision students make, they activate and nurture their social and emotional skills as they collaborate, evaluate sources, strategize, and compromise to make real-time decisions that affect how the game unfolds.
