DESCRIPTION:Opening just in time for Flag Day\, a new summer exhibition at the Museum will showcase dozens of rare American flags alongside historic early state constitutions and the first printing of the proposed U.S. Constitution of 1787 to shed light on the triumphs and tensions that the United States faced as new states joined the Union. The exhibit will trace the evolution of the American flag by featuring an example of each iteration as new states were added. By telling stories from the nation’s revolutionary roots to its continuing struggle over equal rights\, Flags and Founding Documents\, 1776-Today will encourage visitors to consider their role in the ongoing effort to fulfill the promise of the American Revolution. The exhibit is open from June 12 – September 6\, 2021. Museum admission cost required.

DESCRIPTION:The USC Pacific Asia Museum\, the Chinese American Museum\, and the Japanese American National Museum presented “Stronger Together: Black Liberation and Asian Solidarity” virtually on November 19\, 2020. The discussion covered the historic moment in the movement for Black lives and the importance of cross-movement solidarity and coalitional consciousness. The panelists reflected on the history of Black-Asian solidarity and what we can learn from the past in order to live in a liberated future. The panel also offered thoughts on how we move forward following the much anticipated November 3\, 2020 presidential election results. \nCollaboration between the Japanese American National Museum\, the USC Pacific Asia Museum\, and the Chinese American Museum.

DESCRIPTION:History can do more than instruct; it can also inspire. The “Great Task” Youth Leadership Program is for student\, school\, or youth groups in grade levels 7 to 12\, looking for intensive leadership and character-building experiences. The “Great Task” Youth Leadership Program is based upon the ideals set forth in President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address\, “It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us – that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion…”\nWhile in Gettysburg\, participants learn about the actions\, decisions\, leadership and other traits demonstrated by ordinary individuals confronted with the extraordinary challenges during the battle. Participating students will then work to apply lessons of leadership and good character to identified community service projects in their own home communities.\nApply now for on-site experiences in fall 2021.\nThis award winning program is a joint partnership between Gettysburg National Military Park and the American Battlefield Trust with financial support by the Bowe Stewart Foundation.

June Berk\, a former WWII incarceree and Japanese American National Museum volunteer will be interviewed by Abbi-Hope Jihye Park and Abigail Eun\, two Los Angeles-area high school students from the Koreatown Youth and Community Center’s Koreatown Storytelling Program. They will discuss the novel\, the many histories that it connects\, and its lessons for our futures. \nProgram was a collaboration between the Japanese American National Museum\, Koreatown Youth and Community Center Koreatown Storytelling Program\, and the “Book to Action” program of the California Library Association \n\n
