SUMMARY:Resilience Amid Resistance: Pay As You Can Exhibition Admission
DESCRIPTION:Discover history made by students as told by students. \nThis Civics Season\, pay as you can to step into Resilience Amid Resistance—a groundbreaking exhibit created entirely by Rockingham County high school students who dared to ask: “How can we right history?” (A play of the words: right and write.) \nThrough original research\, community interviews\, and visits to historic civil rights sites\, including the Moton Museum\, these young historians traced Virginia’s complex road to school integration from Reconstruction to today—while bringing to light empowering stories from Harrisonburg and Rockingham County’s own civil rights chapter. \nMuseum admission fees waived June 3 – July 5\, 2025

SUMMARY:Black History Film Series
DESCRIPTION:The doors to The Little Carver open at 5:30pm\, and the film begins at 6pm. \n“Black Is…Black Ain’t” rejoices in Black diversity\, but many bare their pain at having been silenced or excluded because they were perceived as “not Black enough” or conversely “too Black.” Black Is…Black Ain’t marshals a powerful critique of sexism\, patriarchy\, homophobia\, colorism and cultural nationalism in the Black family\, church and other Black institutions. Film contains contains mature themes\, strong language\, and graphic scenes that may not be suitable for all viewers\, especially children. \nImmediately following the film\, join us for the lively panel discussion. Brought to you in part by COSA Office of Historic Preservation.
