SUMMARY:Healdsburg Jazz Festival: Juneteenth Celebration on the Plaza
DESCRIPTION:FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FROM 2-8 PM. Featuring live music by the Orrin Evans Trio\, The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol & Tyreek McDole Quintet. These three stellar bands exemplify the power of music as a liberational force. In addition\, the day will feature poet Enid Pickett\, KCSM’s Greg Bridges\, hands-on art workshops with Andi Wong\, dance and percussion workshops with Susana Arenas\, interesting vendors\, and much more. \nJuneteenth is the African American celebration of liberation two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Soon after the end of the Civil War\, Black communities throughout the nation celebrated independence every June 19 with gatherings\, delicious food\, and of course good music. \nHealdsburg Jazz is proud to present a diverse range of music\, art\, culture and education in honor of this holiday\, free to the public in the Healdsburg Plaza. Our Juneteenth performances celebrate the wide range of Black music and art including gospel\, early blues\, New Orleans jazz\, funk\, R&B\, spoken word\, and straight-ahead modern swing. We will also have arts\, crafts\, and music workshops in the plaza for families and young people led by esteemed teaching artists. DESCRIPTION:Since 1619\, people of African ancestry have been woven into the American tapestry. Our Faces of Freedom full-day event celebrates Africans and African Americans from the 1600s to today. Atumpan will perform traditional dance with drums to honor the first Africans to arrive in the Americas. DESCRIPTION:This is an independent walking tour that you can do at any time. \nPresented in Partnership between the African American Cultural and Historical Museum of Washtenaw County and the Ann Arbor District Library. \nThe Living Oral History Project interviews African Americans who have lived in the Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti areas all or most of their lives. An outgrowth of these interviews is the Living Oral History Walking Tour. During many of these interviews\, we heard about predominately Black neighborhoods and the Black Business District; these businesses were owned and/or run by Black entrepreneurs. In addition\, we also heard about community centers\, churches\, schools\, and more. \nThis LOH Walking Tour will give you an opportunity to walk around and see these actual sites or where they were once located. This project supports AACHM’s mission to gather the documents\, artifacts\, and stories of African Americans in Washtenaw County and to pass them on to the greater community.

DESCRIPTION:RevolutionNJ invites you explore New Jersey’s past this Civic Season through their History Pinned program! \nFrom June 1st – July 31st\, five historic sites\, with connections to New Jersey’s civic history\, will be handing out unique History Pinned pin-backed buttons. Collective all five and win a prize! \n2024 History Pinned Sites:\n– Alice Paul Institute\n– American Labor Museum\n– Hoboken Historical Museum\n– New Jersey State Museum\n– T. Thomas Fortune Cultural Center \nDetails:\nThe pin-backed buttons and History Pinned booklets will be available at each location. To receive your button\, look for the History Pinned sign at the welcome desk or ask museum staff for assistance. Supplies are limited and will be distributed on a first-come\, first-served basis.
