On a personal level\, Resistance at Home explores how we can take action in our own lives\, interrogate notions of home\, and recognize the personal as political. \nFrom Filipino labor organizing in the 20th century to contemporary gentrification in the Chinatown International District (CID)\, students explored the varied histories of Asian American\, Native Hawaiian\, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) resistance. \nYouthCAN is the Wing Luke Museum’s free art program for anyone aged 13-19 of all levels of artistic experience.

One of the most recognized figures in the global debate community\, he has won both the World Schools Debating Championship and the World University Debating Championship. Seo has written for The New York Times\, The Atlantic\, CNN\, and many other outlets. Seo graduated from Harvard University and received a master’s degree in public policy from Tsinghua University. He is currently a Juris Doctor candidate at Harvard Law School. \nThe Better Arguments Project is a partnership between the Aspen Institute Citizenship and American Identity Program\, Facing History and Ourselves\, and Allstate.

On several days of the festival\, Betsy will raise flags representing diverse groups\, including the Pride flag and the Juneteenth flag. \nFrom 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day guests will be treated to free\, historical programming from colonial chocolate making to fun flag history presented by Betsy Ross\, and the chance to meet History Makers. DESCRIPTION:“Resettlement: Chicago Story” is an educational program (film + interactive site) that explores one Japanese American family’s experience of rebuilding their lives in Chicago after they were released from the incarceration camps in WWII. The cinematic digital history project consists of a narrative short film and an immersive educational website for learners of all ages who are interested in post-WWII U.S. history. \nUtilizing the power of cinematic storytelling\, the educational website builds upon both the characters and historical themes of incarceration and resettlement introduced in the film. The film functions to create emotional investment in the characters and the time period and builds the world for the website\, which provides the context of the historical period through primary and secondary sources carefully curated by a team of historians. “Resettlement: Chicago Story” is aimed towards 6-12th grade students but is easily adaptable to other grade levels and the general public.

SUMMARY:Encountering the First American West
DESCRIPTION:With support from the National Endowment for the Humanities\, the Filson Historical Society is excited to announce the re-launch of the First American West\, an online collection of letters\, financial records\, maps\, and objects relating to the Ohio River Valley in the mid-1700s through the early 1800s. Originally a collaboration with the Library of Congress and the University of Chicago\, “The First American West: The Ohio River Valley\, 1750-1820 (FAW)” was an early digitization project that launched in 2000. While it was an early standard bearer for digital history\, it became unavailable in 2016 when the Library of Congress ended support for the project. \nIn our relaunch\, an NEH-funded research team has expanded the project to highlight the experiences of those originally excluded\, including the voices of women\, those enslaved\, and the Indigenous communities that called our region home. \nWe’re so excited to share this digital project with you\, and we invite you to explore!
