SUMMARY:Resistance at Home Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:Artwork created by youth\, for youth\, Resistance At Home is the culminating exhibition of artwork created by YouthCAN artists meditating on meanings of home and collective struggle. \nExplore identity and culture through art with the limited time exhibit at Wing Luke Museum. With a wide lens\, Resistance at Home seeks to uncover the ways in which we resist the US empire’s white supremacy\, queerphobia\, patriarchy\, and racial capitalism while situated in the belly of the beast. On a personal level\, Resistance at Home explores how we can take action in our own lives\, interrogate notions of home\, and recognize the personal as political. \nFrom Filipino labor organizing in the 20th century to contemporary gentrification in the Chinatown International District (CID)\, students explored the varied histories of Asian American\, Native Hawaiian\, and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) resistance. \nYouthCAN is the Wing Luke Museum’s free art program for anyone aged 13-19 of all levels of artistic experience.

SUMMARY:July 4th: Fourth at the Fort Festivities
DESCRIPTION:The Fort Pitt Museum\, part of the Heinz History Center’s family of museums\, will host its annual Fourth at the Fort festivities in Point State Park on Tuesday\, July 4. \nAt 1 p.m.\, colonial reenactors\, local scouts\, and veterans will help raise a 36-foot American flag and kick off the Fourth of July holiday in the city of Pittsburgh. Visitors can watch museum staff symbolically lower a British ensign and help raise a 36-foot\, 13-star Garrison flag\, one of several early patterns that may have flown over Fort Pitt during the American Revolution. The ceremony will conclude with the singing of the National Anthem. \nAfter the patriotic flag raising ceremony\, visitors can enjoy a family-friendly afternoon of living history demonstrations. Visitors can throw tomahawks\, learn about Pittsburgh’s role during the American Revolution\, and see costumed interpreters reenact 18th-century life at Fort Pitt.
