DESCRIPTION:Hope to see you on Friday\, July 4\, at the Vernon County Historical Society’s annual Strawberry Shortcake Social! The party will be held from 1 to 5PM at the historic Sherry-Butt House museum\, located at 795 N. Main St. in Viroqua.\nTickets for the event cost $6 each and are available for purchase that day only. (Take-outs also available.)\nAlso included with ticket purchase is musical entertainment on the lawn\, and admission to the house for a tour. This year’s musical acts will include the Viroqua Community band\, which always pleases the crowd with patriotic pieces. Music begins at 1PM.\nStep into a piece of Viroqua history when you take a self-guided tour of the house. Built for the Cyrus and Margaret Butt family shortly after the Civil War\, the home was later purchased by Orbec and Hilda Sherry in the 1940’s. It features furnishings from both families\, plus Civil War memorabilia. Docents will be on hand on July 4 to answer questions about the house.

SUMMARY:The Great Task Youth Leadership Program
DESCRIPTION:History can do more than instruct; it can also inspire. The “Great Task” Youth Leadership Program is for student\, school\, or youth groups in grade levels 7 to 12\, looking for intensive leadership and character-building experiences. The “Great Task” Youth Leadership Program is based upon the ideals set forth in President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address\, “It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us – that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion…”\nWhile in Gettysburg\, participants learn about the actions\, decisions\, leadership and other traits demonstrated by ordinary individuals confronted with the extraordinary challenges during the battle. Participating students will then work to apply lessons of leadership and good character to identified community service projects in their own home communities.\nApply now for on-site experiences in fall 2021.\nThis award winning program is a joint partnership between Gettysburg National Military Park and the American Battlefield Trust with financial support by the Bowe Stewart Foundation.

SUMMARY:Voting & States Rights—Rights for All?
DESCRIPTION:It’s important to understand the role of states in extending—and limiting—the right to vote. We might think that voting as a right for everyone was part of our founding values—but history tells us differently. Protecting your right to vote begins at your state legislature.

SUMMARY:The Great Task Youth Leadership Program
DESCRIPTION:The “Great Task” Youth Leadership Program is for students\, schools\, or youth groups in grade levels 7 to 12\, looking for intensive leadership and character-building experiences. The “Great Task” Youth Leadership Program is based upon the ideals set forth in President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address\, “It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us – that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion…”\nWhile in Gettysburg\, participants learn about the actions and decisions demonstrated by ordinary individuals confronted with extraordinary challenges during the battle. Using this knowledge\, they will apply lessons of leadership and good character to identify community service projects in their own home communities. \nClick “Explore” to apply and learn more.
