DESCRIPTION:FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC FROM 2-8 PM. Featuring live music by the Orrin Evans Trio\, The Dynamic Miss Faye Carol & Tyreek McDole Quintet. These three stellar bands exemplify the power of music as a liberational force. In addition\, the day will feature poet Enid Pickett\, KCSM’s Greg Bridges\, hands-on art workshops with Andi Wong\, dance and percussion workshops with Susana Arenas\, interesting vendors\, and much more. \nJuneteenth is the African American celebration of liberation two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. Soon after the end of the Civil War\, Black communities throughout the nation celebrated independence every June 19 with gatherings\, delicious food\, and of course good music. \nHealdsburg Jazz is proud to present a diverse range of music\, art\, culture and education in honor of this holiday\, free to the public in the Healdsburg Plaza. Our Juneteenth performances celebrate the wide range of Black music and art including gospel\, early blues\, New Orleans jazz\, funk\, R&B\, spoken word\, and straight-ahead modern swing. We will also have arts\, crafts\, and music workshops in the plaza for families and young people led by esteemed teaching artists. DESCRIPTION:Since 1619\, people of African ancestry have been woven into the American tapestry. Our Faces of Freedom full-day event celebrates Africans and African Americans from the 1600s to today. Atumpan will perform traditional dance with drums to honor the first Africans to arrive in the Americas. Historical interpreters will be on-site and on stage to introduce themselves and how they found freedom in a society where that was not always legal or the norm. It is where the civic traditions and ceremonies that affirm our democracy developed over time. The rituals that lend a sense of occasion\, importance\, and unity to our country today take place here. \nThis exhibit explores the traditions surrounding events such as the opening of a new Congress\, inauguration\, joint sessions\, and holidays. DESCRIPTION:In its heyday\, the Up Stairs Lounge was an egalitarian gay space that functioned\, in many ways\, as a forerunner to modern queer safe havens. From October 1970 to June 1973\, the bar toasted Black as well as white gay customers in an era of brazen racial discrimination on nearby Bourbon Street. We will gather at this summit to mark half a century since the destruction of the Up Stairs Lounge and to preserve the memory of what occurred. We will consider what progress has been made since that time period and also how far we have to go. We will join in dialogue to contend with the newly resurgent\, international awareness of this once-neglected past. Lastly\, we will recognize and eulogize the lives of the 31 men and one woman who perished on a random Sunday through no choice or fault of their own. \nKick-off the Up Stairs Lounge Fire 50th Anniversary Commemoration Weekend at The Historic New Orleans Collection. In the Keynote Speech\, authors Johnny Townsend\, Robert Fieseler\, and Clayton Delery will discuss the tragedy and its complex legacy. The keynote will be followed by a community reception.

The conversation between Dennis and Anna will be moderated by Margi Hofer\, senior vice president and Museum director\, who frequently does genealogy research to tell a fuller story of the art and artifacts in New-York Historical’s collection. This is an interactive event with a guest speaker and question-and-answer opportunities. \nWhen Joseph Magoffin helped write the articles of Incorporation for El Paso\, he helped shape the modern city. “How El Paso Works” will compare Joseph’s vision for El Paso to what is has become in the last 150 years. Guest speakers from municipal agencies are invited to speak about their departments and let us know why and when we might need to call upon them to help us keep El Paso thriving. \nThis is a series meant to help us all become more aware of and confident in using city services available to us all and to celebrate 150 years of being an incorporated city in Texas. SUMMARY:Connecticut Witch Panic Escape Room
DESCRIPTION:Be they witch or warlock? Only you can find clues to the truth. Step into the museum’s historic seven-sided barn as 17th century investigators tasked with discovering the evidence that could prove the innocence of an accused witch. Your group of up to ten people have one hour until the trial when the alleged witch will have their fate decided.  \nTime slots are available Tuesdays-Thursdays from 11:30 am to 5 pm; on Fridays and Saturdays slots run from11:30 am through 8 pm. All reservations last for 60 minutes\, with the recommendation of arriving 15 minutes prior to your start time. Tickets $20 for members\, $25 for non-members. Groups of 2-10 people. Reservations are required\, select your date and time online. Reservations close 48 hours prior to their posted start date. You may make your reservation private for an additional $20 per group.

One of the defining features of El Paso is the architectural gems scattered across its landscape—from the historic Missions to downtown El Paso’s Trost masterpieces\, Segundo Barrio’s tenement houses and the craftsman homes of Manhattan Heights and beyond. Learn more about the City of El Paso Historic Preservation Office which helps the home and business owners in these districts preserve these important buildings.
