SUMMARY:Constitutional Literacy Institute
DESCRIPTION:The purpose of the Constitutional Literacy Institute (CLI) is to provide education\, resources\, and experiences for teachers to increase personal constitutional literacy and thereby help their students to do the same. \nThe rising generation of citizens and leaders need a broad understanding of political thought and practices critical to the perpetuation of constitutional government\, ordered liberty\, and the rule of law. CLI is a tool for teachers to do just that. \nInstruction is provided by esteemed constitutional scholars from the Center for Constitutional Studies at UVU\, Oxford University\, and elsewhere. \nParticipants will examine the U.S. Constitution through the lenses of history\, law\, economics\, and public policy. Teacher attendees will increase their personal understanding of foundational principles and dispositions of America’s founding and its roots.

SUMMARY:Native Americans in the Nation’s Capitol
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a free three-part program: \nFirst\, watch a documentary clip about Navajo Code Talkers from World War II. We will discuss their legacy\, including the Congressional Gold Medal recognition many decades later. \nThen\, examine the model for Chief Standing Bear’s statue and learn more about the historic 1879 court case that ruled “an Indian is a person” under the law. The full-scale statue was unveiled in National Statuary Hall in 2019 and is one of two statues representing the state of Nebraska. \nLast\, take a guided tour of the U.S. Capitol focused on the ways America’s depictions of Indigenous peoples in Capitol art has evolved over time.

SUMMARY:From Germanna to Judge Judy: Judicial Jeopardy Night
DESCRIPTION:Do you have what it takes to win?! \nStep up to the bench and put your judicial knowledge to the test at Historic Germanna’s Judicial Jeopardy Night\, a light-hearted interactive trivia night that explores the evolution of American legal history from colonial courtrooms to courtroom TV. \nHosted at the Fredericksburg Branch of the Central Rappahannock Regional Library\, this fun but educational evening will feature a judiciary-themed Jeopardy game. Test your knowledge\, win a prize\, but also come prepared to learn surprising new facts. \nThis event is part of Civic Season\, an initiative created by Made By Us to bridge Independence Day and Juneteenth by inviting people of all ages—especially young adults—to connect with the past\, take action in the present\, and shape the future. Judicial Jeopardy Night offers a chance to do just that: learn about the history of our country’s judiciary\, what its current role is\, and how you can get involved. \nCome ready to compete\, learn\, and laugh\, no legal background required. We’ll bring the trivia and the free pizza; you bring your best guess and your appetite for justice. \nThis event will take place in Room #1 at the Fredericksburg Branch of CRRL. Arrive at 5:00pm for pizza and socializing; trivia will begin at 5:30pm.

SUMMARY:Gardens After Hours: Community Place\, History Based\, and Rejuvenation Station
DESCRIPTION:Civic Season is celebrating the power of community building\, with sites serving as vibrant third spaces—places where connections are formed\, history is shared\, and ideas turn into action. \nTudor Place will offer spaces for participants to share their thoughts on the past and present to build networks for the future. Through talk back boards\, an art craft\, a mocktail\, live music (6pm -7pm) a look at collection objects from the 1920s and more\, we hope that this Tudor Tuesday event brings people together to create a stronger community. \nVisitors are welcome to bring a picnic (blankets and camp chairs permitted\, no red wine or red/purple juices allowed). Be sure to remove all trash. Trash receptacles are not provided. Due to the historic landscape\, games\, chairs with legs\, blow up furniture are not permitted. \nSuggested donation of $5 for those 18+ (but not required)
