SUMMARY:Fourth of July Festival
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our annual Fourth of July Festival! This is a free public event featuring activities at Morven Museum & Garden and the Princeton Battlefield State Park. \nIn 1783\, Morven hosted Congressional delegates celebrating Independence Day. 240 years later\, the museum continues this tradition\, utilizing our role as the home of a signer of the Declaration of Independence and as New Jersey’s first Governor’s mansion to engage the public in activities that explore and reflect on our full history and what it means to be an active citizen. \nVisit two historic sites in one day! \nStop by Morven any time between 12:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. for activities and artmaking with community partners; garden tours; face painting; music from the Vintage Vibe Tribe; food trucks; a chance to sign the Declaration of Independence; and more. The museum will be open with half-price admission. \nA short distance away\, check out the Princeton Battlefield State Park where you can visit the historic Clarke House and hear a reading of the Declaration of Independence by Will Krakower\, Resource Interpretive Specialist with the NJDEP\, at 1:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. The Clarke House is open free of charge.

SUMMARY:Why America Needs Service\, Now More Than Ever
DESCRIPTION:COVID-19 and the fallout from the 2020 election have exposed the fragility of American democratic institutions and the importance of rebuilding the nation’s civic culture. Should there be a universal expectation of national service for youth? What role should national service play in repairing American democracy and in helping the nation emerge from the pandemic? The conversation examines how service can bring Americans out of their political bubbles and mend some of the inequities exposed by COVID-19. In collaboration with Service Year Alliance.

SUMMARY:Panel: Protest & Citizenship (Part II)
DESCRIPTION:Collective protest\, in addition to being a constitutionally protected right\, is a fundamental and enduring part of American life and culture. This panel revisited a conversation held at the MHS in 2018 that explored the ways in which protest has been used to highlight injustice and change the citizenship rights of certain groups. In the wake of the high-profile demonstrations triggered by the murder of George Floyd\, what can we take from the past to understand our current political and social climate? \nSee Part I
