DESCRIPTION:In June 2020\, members of The Yale Historical Review (YHR) founded The 1701 Project\, an initiative on racial injustice and social change. Although unrelated\, we draw inspiration from Nikole Hannah-Jones and her colleagues’ examination of slavery’s legacies in The 1619 Project. The 1701 Project (a nod to the year of Yale’s founding) analyzes our university’s and our nation’s racist histories through an ongoing series of articles\, interviews\, and art. We have extended this conversation beyond New Haven\, partnering with publications from other institutions across the country. This coalition\, titled Of Many Strands (the name borrowed from the epilogue of Ralph Ellison’s The Invisible Man)\, has to create a central online repository for our journals. The 1701 Project and Of Many Strands seek to foster dialogue about our history in order to change our society today.

DESCRIPTION:The events that occurred at our nation’s Capitol on January 6\, 2021 are not only shocking in today’s world\, but also generated comparisons to previous episodes from history. \n\n\nAs images\, video clips\, and news reports filled social media feeds\, they invited comparisons to previous historical events and inquiries about connections to the past. Many of these questions were related to the Civil War era. \n\n\nACWM has compiled a list of resources that speak to many of these questions\, and help provide historical context to these events. Many are new pieces written by Civil War historians\, sharing the connections that they see in current events and conversations as they unfold.

DESCRIPTION:The Missouri History Museum and the Collective STL present an intergenerational summer wellness experience for the entire family. Participate in a variety of activities including yoga\, journaling\, mindful art\, music\, and healthy food and drink samples. If you like walking\, hiking\, and biking\, we also encourage you to take advantage of trails in Forest Park while you’re here. \nThis program will take place every Wednesday in June in person on the North Lawn of the Missouri History Museum in Forest Park\, should conditions allow. Protective face masks are required\, and guests will be asked to practice social distancing. \nJust Breath STL is part of the Missouri Historical Society’s 2021 Juneteenth Celebration. Throughout the month of June\, MHS will be welcoming audiences of all ages to gather virtually as well as in-person to critically examine systemic racism and celebrate Juneteenth.
